13 February 2011 – Red Umbrella Protests across Italy

In Italy, The Committee for the Rights of Prostitutes has called for protests all over Italy against sexism, racism, homophobia and the instrumentalisation of moralistic arguments to increase the stigmatisation of sex workers in the Berlusconi affair.

Their Manifesto and Leaflet, endorsed by x:talk calls women, men, sex workers, feminists and all deserters of Patriarchy to mobilise against a society which:

  • Persecutes migrants pretending to defend Italians’ economic security
  • Persecutes gay and lesbian people pretending to defend the sacred value of the family
  • Persecutes women pretending to defend the continuity of the species, pretending to defend their very dignity, bodies, lives
  • Persecutes anybody who expresses one free thought in order to defend the ones in power

Demonstrations will take place on February 13th in the following Italian cities:

Rome:  14.00, Piazza del Popolo

Milan: 13.30 Piazza Castello

Palermo: 10.00 Piazza Croci

Pisa: 14.00 Piazza Sant’antonio
